What is the Spiritual Adoption Program? "Participants in the Spiritual Adoption Program promise to pray for nine months for a [pre-born child]. While this child will remain unknown to his or her 'spiritual parent', God knows who the child is. Many people have found that naming 'their child' helps to keep them focused on the reality that their prayers are helping [a particular unborn child.]" ~From the Archdiocese of Baltimore web site

The Spiritual Adoption Program was designed to foster an awareness of the sanctity of life, and to educate parishioners/students about the development of the pre-born child.

The program has been divided into three phases:

Name and promise (pledge) to pray for an unborn child

Daily prayer for the child, for a period of nine months

Participation in a birthday party at the end of the nine month period (which will be sponsored by St. John Pro-Life in the cafeteria). Parishioners will be asked to donate "birthday" gifts or monies, for the babies they have been praying for. All proceeds will go to a local pregnancy center.

How do I sign up? Currently, we are trying to have an annual sign-up in January. This will be announced in the bulletin approx 4 weeks, before we actually begin the Spiritual Adoption Program for January of that year. If you don't normally read the bulletin, you may check the online bulletin, for current information. If you still wish to begin praying for an unborn child immediately, you have two options:

Start praying for an unborn child with us! Check our timeline, to determine where we are in the nine-month prayer effort (scheduled to end in October, 2006).

Choose a name for your baby, and begin praying the daily prayer for the baby

you have named. You may download a copy of the pledge card here (you will need Microsoft Word). Fill out the card, and either mail it to St. John Catholic

Church, or bring it to the church, and place it in the basket near the statue of Our

Lady. Remember to pray the prayer every day, and watch for monthly, "Thank you notes" and developmental updates. If you don't see them in the bulletin, you can always find them here.
